The first three months of a baby’s life are a period of rapid adjustment, both for the baby and for the parents. At this stage, the baby begins to learn how to live outside the womb, and each day is a new discovery.

Physical Development
The baby starts gaining weight and growing in length at a fast pace. Muscle tone improves, and the newborn begins to hold its head up for a few seconds. Gradually, it can turn its head toward sounds and light.

Sensory Perception and Response
Vision is still limited, but the baby recognizes the mother’s face and prefers to look at it. Hearing and smell are highly developed, and crying is the main way of communication.

Nutrition
Breast milk is the ideal food. Alternatively, infant formula is given, always under a pediatrician’s guidance. At this stage, nutrition is exclusively liquid.

Emotional Development
The parents’ safety and affection build the first emotional bond. The baby begins to calm down with the parent’s voice or embrace and shows the first “social” smiles.

Advice for Parents
Stay close to your baby with tenderness and patience. Even though it seems fragile, it learns and grows rapidly through every interaction with you.
